Here to Help!

by Peter

Hi, I’m Peter and if you’ve found your way here then I assume you’re wanting some help.

This site is just getting going but I hope to fill it with lots of useful information to help you get the most from your computer.

For starters, I run a business that helps folk like you to: [click to continue…]

The excellent, free antivirus program, Avast requires annual registration and the software will begin to prompt you when your licence is due for renewal.

Some people are a bit wary to re-register as the prompts often suggest that you upgrade to the paid version, but you don’t have to pay anything if you don’t wish to.

I’ve put together this little tutorial to guide you through the simple process and make life a bit easier.

Let me know how you get on.

Firstly, at the bottom right of your screen, Avast installs an icon, an orange spinning ball with the letter ‘a’ on it. Hover over it with your mouse and RIGHT click.

A menu should appear and you just need to LEFT click ‘Registration information’

This should open the Avast software on the appropriate registration page.

If your program is due to expire then you’ll see something like this:

All you need to do is click the grey ‘Register Now’ button.

A new window will open that should look like this:

Understandably, Avast want you to purchase the paid product and as such will highlight the upgrade option. If however, you wish to remain with the free version, just click the grey ‘Register’ button as I’ve highlighted on the image.

Another window will open that looks like this:

Simply complete the form as I’ve suggested and then click ‘Register for free license’

You’ll then be shown a window that looks like this:

Click OK. Your registration will then be confirmed.

If everything works then it should only take a few minutes, but if you get stuck then just drop me a line.

Happy computing

Peter

My Favourite Christmas Shops

December 12, 2011

I’m often asked where I shop online so I thought that I should create a page where I could share with you the sites we tend to shop at, especially at Christmas time. I reckon we do upwards of 80% of our Christmas shopping via the Internet and would probably do more if the supermarkets [...]

August 17, 2011

Let me ask you, are you on Skype? I know many of my customers have got it but I’m also aware that lots of you haven’t and maybe even if you have, you’ve not got your head around it just yet. I want to show you a tutorial that explains what it is, the benefits [...]

Does Your House Key Start Your Car?

March 29, 2011

Can I ask you a question? When a website, say your bank, favourite shopping site or even something like facebook asks you for a password, do you use the same one every time? Maybe you add a number to the end if you have to, but ordinarily, do you use the same password for everything? [...]

Just a quick note today… Twice this week I’ve been asked to sort out PCs that have become unusable because they were infected with viruses and scareware. One PC was taking an eternity to do anything and the other one had locked the user out completely. In both cases, the owners weren’t using any antivirus and [...]

Setting The Right Monitor Resolution

February 22, 2011

What does the image above look like to you? It should be a perfect circle within a perfect square, not an oval in a rectangle, but a circle in a square. I see a lot of people’s computer monitors during my work and it surprises me how many people are using incorrect settings so images [...]

What if you need a new computer?

December 2, 2010

I often get asked to offer advice when people are purchasing a new computer and I think it surprises some folk as to how many questions I ask before making any recommendations. The two main questions I ask are: What do you want to use it for? and What’s your budget? Once we’ve got these [...]

Keep it Clean

October 24, 2010

Your computer is great at doing lots of things, but one ‘skill’ it has that is often overlooked and not at all welcome, is the ability to attract dirt, dust and germs. Dust is drawn into the workings of the computer via its fans. The fans are there to help the delicate components remain cool [...]
